Clippie vs Ascynd
Cheaper once. Windows only.
Clippie and Ascynd agree on the important thing: video should be processed on your own machine, not uploaded to somebody's cloud. Clippie is cheaper as a one-time purchase. It is also Windows-only, and its AI features expect you to supply an API key of your own.
Why creators are switching
The key differences between Clippie and Ascynd, and why they matter for your content workflow.
Windows only vs all three platforms
Clippie is a Windows 10/11 64-bit desktop application. There is no macOS or Linux build. Ascynd ships native builds for all three from one codebase and one licence.
Bring your own AI key, or do not
Clippie's Universal AI Provider expects you to connect ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or a local Ollama install for its AI work — so there is a second account, and often a second bill, behind the one-time price. Ascynd ships its models with the application: install, sign in, clip.
Clippie is cheaper up front
$39.99 once is less than Ascynd's $95.88 a year, and we would rather state that plainly than talk around it. Weigh it against needing a Windows machine and an AI provider of your own.
Both keep footage on your disk
Neither uploads your video for clipping. Note that pointing Clippie's AI provider at a hosted model does send transcript text to that provider — local processing and a cloud API key are not the same privacy guarantee.
