Why stream VODs break metered tools
A typical stream runs two to four hours. On a tool that bills one credit per minute of source video, a single three-hour VOD is 180 credits — most of a month's allowance on a mid-tier plan, spent on one stream. Stream five times a week and the arithmetic stops working entirely.
Source-length caps are the harder wall. Several clippers refuse videos over 45 minutes on their entry plan, which does not merely make VOD clipping expensive — it makes it impossible without upgrading two tiers. Both platforms let you export the source material, and the mechanics are worth knowing because they set your retention window.
On Twitch, Alt+X opens the clip editor for a segment from the recent buffer, and VODs are downloadable from the Video Producer — but retention is limited, commonly 7, 14 or 60 days depending on your account type, so anything you want to clip later needs downloading before it expires.
On Kick, the C shortcut creates a clip of up to 180 seconds from a live stream or a VOD, and clips can be downloaded as MP4 directly. Longer material means downloading the VOD itself.
Either way, once the file is on your disk Ascynd treats it like any other video: it scans the whole thing, scores the moments, reframes to vertical and burns in captions.
What Ascynd does not do
Being straight about this matters, because it is the main reason a streamer might reasonably choose something else.
Ascynd has no channel integration. It will not connect to your Twitch or Kick account, watch for new streams, or pull VODs automatically. Tools built specifically for streamers — Eklipse most prominently — do exactly that, and if hands-off monitoring is what you want, that is a genuine advantage they have and we do not.
